On December 29, 2015, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”) issued United States Patent number 9,226,088 entitled “Methods and Apparatuses for Multiple Configurations of Beamforming Microphone Arrays.” The ‘088 patent describes a method for self detecting spatial orientation and adaptively configuring a beamforming microphone array for superior audio performance. This invention enables a beamforming microphone array to be used in a wide variety of conferencing applications, such as discreetly mounted on the ceiling, attached to a wall below a video conferencing display, or placed on a table.
This invention is important because it facilitates the widespread market adoption of beamforming microphone array technology for multiple applications by eliminating the need for complex training, installation, and management.
