Every day, we find new ways of using the powerful, and ultra-flexible steering technology utilized in the three digitally-steerable offerings from Renkus-Heinz. Between the laser-like precision of the Iconyx, or the sleek and unobtrusive IC Live, to the full on digitally-steerable IC2 line array, Renkus-Heinz is pushing the envelope further and further with the use of steering technology.
This technology, as you may know, lends itself well to any application where the acoustic environment is not ideal for amplified sound. This is a common occurrence in places such as airports, churches and any other space that features highly-reflective materials that cause for a jumbled mess when it comes to putting amplified sound into these rooms. As the column loudspeaker was perfected, as of recent years, it has found a home in such spaces. The height of these columns (which can be 6, 10, 12 feet etc.) meant the vertical pattern of the speaker can be controlled far better than in a traditional point-source loudspeaker. In highly-reverberant spaces, such control is extremely powerful. The Iconyx which is the speech-focused digitally-steerable column array makes use of the theory with digital beam steering, and creates a product that can go into some of the most horrendous venues, and provide excellent clarity and intelligibility. The Iconyx provides laser-like 
precision, and it works well in rooms with long RT60 times.
We could go on all day talking about digital beam steering. Today’s
demo, yet again showed how powerful the digital beam steering technology can really be. Utilizing the IC16, we performed a two-venue demo in two spaces with some tricky room acoustics. What I haven’t mentioned yet was that this demo was for sound masking. Coverage was excellent. and for large rooms where suspension from the ceiling simply isn’t possible (such as was the case with this room) the Iconyx is a great fit. The end-user commented on the fact that they had not found any solution, up to this point, that accomplished what they wanted; they were satisfied at the end of this demo and found the IC16 to address their needs.
