This year, the South Korean city of Daejeon will host Asian Youth Day in the month of August, where thousands of young adults are expected to celebrate their faith.
With one of the world’s most dynamic Churches, South Koreans are proud of the promotion of Seoul’s Archbishop Andrew Yeom Soo-jung to Cardinal.
Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung leads a growing Church, with one of the highest conversions of Catholics, and a big missionary spirit, that will be on full display for Asian Youth Day, especially since Pope Francis himself will be a guest, from August 14th to the 18th.
For the occasion of the Pope’s visit to Korea, Inter-M has been nominated the official supplier of the PA system that will broadcast the event live to as many as 1 million people that are expected to gather in streets of Gwanghwamun Square to see the head of the Roman Catholic Church beatify 124 Korean martyrs on Aug. 16 during a 2hr ceremony.
The main PA system will feature Inter-M’s new TL Series 12 inch line array speakers that will be used in a live venue for the first time during this historic event. The new TL-22 dual 12-inch line array speakers are entirely manufactured in Inter-M’s Korea speaker factory.
To power the 180 speaker cabinets that will be distributed throughout the 12KM venue, are 120 pieces of V2-5000 power amplifiers. Each V2-5000 delivers 5000 watts of power. 45 DPA-600D and 90 DPA-1200S will also be used. In all 762,000 watts of audio power will be dispersed to the faithful crowd, making this a POPESTAR event!
The 12KM venue in Gwanghwamun facing Seoul’s City hall square will have 2 main speaker towers and 16 delay towers. Single mode fiber cables in a star configuration will connect all 18 towers. Audio to the towers will be transmitted using 20 pairs of Inter-M’s FTA/FRA-108 audio over fiber transmitters and receivers. 20 pieces of Inter-M’s DAC-288 audio over ethernet using Audinate’s Dante™ protocol will also be used.
Each Speaker tower will consist of 10 TL-22 dual 12-inch line arrays, one CSP-4.8 speaker processor, One FRA-108 fiber audio receiver, 1 DAC-288 Audio over Ethernet, One PS-80 powered speaker as a confidence monitor, and a combination of V2-5000, DPA-600D and DPA-1200S power amplifiers.

INTER-M has dedicated 20 employees from their SR-team, Speaker R&D team, and engineering team to prepare, install, test, calibrate and operate the system during the venue. Many of Inter-M’s domestic dealers and distributors are also actively participating with Inter-M in the success of this event.
Despite its long history, Catholicism is still relatively new to Korea. In fact, it was laypeople, not missionaries, who established the first Catholic communities in the peninsula in the 18th Century.
It is a testament to the local church’s missionary spirit. A spirit that at times came at the cost of lives. It is expected that during the visit by Pope Francis, he will preside the beatification ceremony for 124 Korean martyrs, victims of religious persecution.
The pope will also meet with bereaved families and survivors of the Sewol ferry, which sank in April and killed over 300, in Daejeon, south of Seoul, on Aug 15.
Inter-M is proud to be an integral part of this historic event.
