We’re thrilled to have recently added dB Technologies to our line card. We’re excited to pound the pavement, and begin sharing this outstanding brand to all of the dealers and distributors in Southern California! With that being said, dB has released a few new products over the last year or so, and we would be foolish to not share with you more about the awesome DVA Mini.
As you well know, the industry is full of line arrays, everything ranging from the compacts, up to the very large format two, and three-way boxes. DB technologies has been at the forefront of line array’s, and their use of a moulded box allows for a more rigid, less resonant, and much lighter cabinet. Over the years, dB has sold large quantities of their T4 and T12 cabinet, and more recently, the T8 has been a huge hit as well! What really sets dB apart is the quality components they use, their digital amplification technology, and their insistence on manufacturing their products still in Italy.
The DVA series of line array products now has a new family member, the DVA Mini. The mini is an outstanding product. From a cost standpoint, you won’t find another product in this price range with the small footprint, on-board DSP, and well, sonically this box rocks! The system consists of two offerings, an active version that comes with two modules, one master (with on-board amplification) and the other unit, a slave. Contact us for authorized dealer pricing– you’ll be blown away at how reasonably priced the Mini system truly is… The second version is passive, and you order each box, just like you would any other line array. Also part of the Mini line is a new 12-inch subwoofer, designed to be flown at the top of the array. For bass extension and providing additional bass impact from the array, the MS12 is a great bass module. One or two of these is highly recommended (in addition to larger, perhaps ground-placed subwoofers) for sub-bass performance. Both the line array modules, and the bass module (MS12) are available in white or black.
Each of the modules consist of two 6.5-inch drivers in a dipole configuration, meaning, the HF driver is placed center in the module, with a LF driver placed to each side of it [HF Driver]. This dipole configuration greatly impacts pattern control, and this box keeps it’s consistent vertical, and horizontal pattern control as specified. One thing that is noticeable right away, is the off-axis performance of this box. Even when stepping out to the far sides of the horizontal pattern, you still get excellent performance, with minimal change in frequency response as compared to direct, on-axis. But, when you step out of the pattern, it does drop off immediately, like it’s supposed to. What makes this compact line array even more nifty is the way the boxes connect together. A simple, fast, and very effective quick connect is used to connect the modules together, and within seconds, you can add an additional box. Not only is it fast and effective, it’s also very safe!
The two models I mentioned earlier as part of the active offering are the M2M and M2S. The M2M is your master unit, and has an output on the rear of the module to power a single, M2S, slave module. The M2M module weighs in at just over 16 lbs., while the M2S is just about 15 lbs! Max SPL per unit is 126 dB, and they have a frequency response of 78Hz to 19kHz. The passive version, the M2P weighs in around the same as the M2S, and max output and frequency response are identical to that of the M2M + M2S. For small to medium theater, houses of worship, and the like, the DVA Mini is an outstanding product.
