The newly patented technology — featured on ClearOne’s beamforming microphone arrays that incorporate orientation sensors — helps to ensure optimum performance for users.
In ClearOne’s beamforming microphones, this technology is used to automatically detect the microphone’s orientation so that it can configure itself internally for optimum performance in:
- ceiling mode — when mounted out of the way of users;
- table mode — for maximum setup convenience; and
- wall mode — when used below a display screen for videoconferencing.
The beamformer’s orientation sensor enables the microphone array to instantly shift its signal processing characteristics in direct response to signals picked up by that sensor. The beamformer detects the way it has been installed, and adapts its lobes appropriately. The flexibility of this self-adaptive smart mounting aids integrators in minimizing audio design and installation guesswork, thus assuring users of the ultimate in acoustical performance.
Titled “Conferencing Apparatus with an Automatically Adapting Beamforming Microphone Array,” the May 2 patent (#9,641,688) covers, among other things, a plurality of microphones arranged in a housing oriented to span a multiplicity of directions.
