K-array Dazzles Under the Friday Night Lights in Texas

The only thing bigger than Texas football is the Lone Star state itself so it’s no surprise that when Midland Christian School in west Texas needed a sound system for Friday night football games, only powerful, reliable audio would do. Basin Electric & Technology was called upon by the MCS Booster Club to provide a sound system with clarity and high volume output. The sound needed to be full in dynamic range and be able to cover the football stadium. They immediately turned to K-array.

The installer decided on the Italian company since providing sound quality is their goal as well as the added benefits it offers: “The fact that we can get a great sounding K-array system in such a unique portable setup is an added bonus. It helps us in our setup times and ultimately makes the events we work on better for our clients and us. We love the KR402 systems for their ability to produce clarity at high volumes, while still maintaining headroom. The systems also project across long distances amazingly well for a small portable system.” -Henry Greer from Basin Electric & Technology.

The venue is a small high school football stadium that holds roughly 3,000 fans where four KR402 portable systems are set up in the north end zone and projected to both the east and west stands and along with the playing field. They are lined in a row with the two outside systems aimed at the stands and while the inside systems are aimed at the field.

Signal to the KR402 systems were fed by a Midas M32R in the press box connected to a Midas S32 stage box down on the field with outputs directly into the speakers. The speakers were linked utilizing the AES/EBU connections on the back of the speakers.

Client Mark Threadgill from the booster club repeatedly remarked on how impressed they were with the “fullness” of the sound system:

“Compared to our in-house sound system, the difference is night and day.” -Mark Threadgill from the Booster Club. As project supervisor, Greer would like to thank Midland Christian School for allowing them to be a part of the storied sport in Texas and to thank the entire team at Basin Electric & Technology for all of their hard work for a successful project.
